Automatic vs Semi-Automatic

Hello,

I`m about to sell a semi-automatic student model and buy a Marigaux professional 2000 series.

I`m attracted to the automatic model because it`s, well, automatic.

However, I`ve heard that the semi-automatic is a better choice to play the weird harmonics required in some modern classical music. I`ve also heard that expert players tend to favour the semi-automatic and so this might be the better choice for resale.

So, any comments on the harmonics issue or the relative resale values would be appreciated.

I`m also interested in any insights from the group on why the oboe keywork hasn`t settled into a single standard. As far as I can see, they`re still making various models with names like "Thumbplate", Conservatoire, Gillet, semi-automatic and automatic.

I can understand that different traditions could have built up in the past when people were isolated by high communication and transport costs. But now, when the market is essentially global, you would expect that one approach would win out.

Regards
Ben

-buy semi-resale is bad in the North America on Automatics.
-hamonics are result of overtone series not octave system.

basically nothing wrong in automatic models.
But.. automatic is more complecated in adjustment then needed, also it`s tend be not so stable in high register to my taste.
