I have a selmer 104 oboe--not the best, yet not the greatest.....its not as bad as people make them out to be....but they are not the greatest oboes by any stretch

I have a Barrington model 801. It`s just a intermediate model but it does have all the professional keywork like a third octave key and Low B vent! Happy Oboing everyone, Shawn

Hello Shawn,

I actualy considered getting the barington oboe. How do you like it? Does it sound good? My teacher told me that I shouldn`t get it, but I did consider it. Thanks!

Hi Kosh, I was also skeptical at first when I ordered my Barrington, considering it was by a maker that I did not reconize and the low price. But the salesperson at Woodwind and Brasswind told me that his teacher actually recommended this Oboe to her students and that it was a very good quality Oboe. I was very impressed when it came and thought the tone was very good on it. I also played it for one of my Oboe friends at school and she thought it was really nice and had a good sound (she plays on a Yamaha Wood Oboe). So overall I am very pleased with the Oboe. Best of luck in your Oboe playing and have fun with your new Buffet Oboe!
Your friend, Shawn

P.S. Let me know how you like the Buffet, okay!

I also have had a Barrington oboe, and let me stress the word HAD.....mine absolutely sucked, period. The instruments are really sketchy, some are great, while most likely u will get stuck with one thats descent-sucky. I got rid of mine a while ago, and would advise any potential buyers to buy 2 of them if possible, and play test each one and keep the one thats better, and return the other one to the dealer, such as WWBW.

i`m surprised too.

well, i have a cabart, but it`s in such a bad state that i have to buy another one.

there is a kreul and a cabart in offer in my city, both 2nd-hand, not in the top condition but best that money can buy. do you know how much the cost of total re-padding of a cabart is?

i`m trying to decide between the two.
