What Musicals have you played in the pit orchestra for and what have been your favorites? I`ve done Crazy for You, Once Upon Mattress, Seussical, and Oklahoma. My favorite is probably Oklahoma because it had fun English horn parts.

I`ve done Guy and Dolls (Flute), Once Upon a Mattress (Oboe), and 1940`s Radio Hour (Acting Role / Alto Sax).

Although I wanted to play flute for Once Upon a Mattress it was fun and is my favorite. Spanish Panic on Oboe was really really hard for me... I couldn`t even switch to flute just for that bit, but I managed.

For Guys and Dolls ya gotta love that flute part from Luck be a Lady, very fun and fast. The chik-a-dee numbers were cute and fun.

1940`s Radio Hour - My first acting stint. My role as a Sax player was so boring and I was in the on-stage orchestra most of the time doing nothing except for few group song and dance scenes. I learned the Alto Sax well enough to play with the band, but couldn`t memorize my one solo... I think it was "Jingle Bells". So I faked playing for that.

Hi, I played in our schools production of Kiss Me, Kate and Carousel. I played 3rd clarinet in Carousel and 2nd Flute/Piccolo for Kiss Me, Kate. I my humble opinion, Carousel`s music was alot more challenging than the Kiss Me, Kate`s music.

My favorite pit musical I did was the Wizard of Oz. There were tons of english horn and oboe solos.

Ive played Roger and Hammersteins Cinderella, although I played Bassoon in that one, the girl next to me was playing the oboe part on flute and it sounded cool, so i can only imagine what it would have been like with an oboe, i got into my oboe and english horn playing after that, but i loved the experience....so much fun!!

I`ve only ever played in the pit once, when I was 15. The theatre company did pirates of penzance which was so much fun. A great way to start of one`s musical career! lol or so I like to think

"The King & I" is quite a bit of fun for oboe/EH! There is some nice solo work in that show. And I recall doing "Once Upon a Mattress" way back in high school, but I doubled on oboe and flute. And I had a horrible cold during the performance, so I coughed all the way through it. A bit of a bummer really.

I have only done one musical and it was "Gypsy". THAT was an interesting musical. Horrible in my opinion. I played the flute, piccolo, and violin part. (I played the violin part on flute) Let me tell you, all those sharps were NASTY. But yes, this year it is Cinderella and from what I read above, the oboe part is awesome, yayness!
