*Shakes his head.* No, it`s not entirely difficult. You`ll have to get used to the -very- different embouchure on the oboe, though. Fingerings are near the same, even in the higher registers. Umm, I would recommend, though, that you get an oboe teacher to help you learn oboe - learning it on your own is very difficult, and you`ll develop lots of bad habits.
I should think, though, that since you`re going from flute to oboe, you shouldn`t have to worry too much about tone - you`ll have lots of air to sustain the instrument. I went from oboe to flute, and found that it`s a lot more work keeping air for flute than it is on oboe. Lots of respect for flutists.
Anyway, keep us updated on how you`re doing, and if you`ve any more questions, don`t hesitate to ask!

*Kicks himself - he forgot the advice!*
Ummm...embouchure - BIG thing. It`s similar to the flute`s, for the most part (I think). Since I can`t really show you, all I can say is that you form the letter "o" and say "eu". That`s what I was taught.
Yeah, embouchure and teacher. Hope I`ve helped in some way...

Yeah i take private lesson on flute w/ a flute major and so i wanted to play the oboe because no one plays it at school and in the city-concert. People say oboe is a hard instrument to play because of the reed. Is that true? is that why people don`t play double-reeds often? Double reeds look better . I hope i can change instruments.

WOW!I have finally met someone like me! I also have transferred from flute to oboe! It took me around 3 months to change the embouchure and 2 years to finally get a nice dark oboe tone! The tongueing is different. The oboe also need so much more pressure! The flute uses the most air in the band so you will have no problems there but the boe is the 2nd most difficult instrument in the band because it needs the most air pressure! (the most difficult is french horn). You can play the oboe until your face turns purple and not get a sound out. The fingering is also much more complicated. Good Luck!

I switched from flute to oboe last year. I think I am doing pretty good at it and I love playing something different. Really before last year I never even knew what an oboe was!
Switching from flute isn`t bad I think the worst thing is having to deal with reeds...
