Hi, I`m in the 8th grade, have been playing the oboe for a year, and am wondering which song to play in a solo contest coming up. Does anybody know a good, impressive, yet easy or intermediate song for the oboe?

Serenade for Oboe by Schubert is a good one, very slow yet a very pleasant piece

I played Romance No. 1 by Schumann in 8th grade for my solo. It`s fairly easy to play, note-wise and rhythm-wise. The technique and style is much more difficult, though. If you nail this piece, your audience will be amazed. My teacher played it for an audition in New York while I was playing it for a solo contest. It is a very beautiful piece that I enjoyed learning. It takes time and practice, though.

The Cesar Franck work, Piece #5 (also seen as Pièce V) This one isn`t too demanding & it`s got some nice breathers, but a left F is very useful on this one in a number of passages.

depending on your actual technique level & endurance you could alternatly try either movement of the Loeillet "Andante & Allegro" (endurance because there aren`t many breaks in the piece)
