Could the oboes be made of Silver or someting like that because the flute was orginally made of wood. Could this happen?

I know you can get silver plated keys, gold plated keys, and bronze plated keys, i think and possibly some other materials could be plated too. But i dont know if you can have like silver oboes, wouldnt that effect the tone?.. i really dont know haha.
would like to hear some replies.

Marigaux makes an altuglass oboe in their 200 line. It`s pretty cool looking, but I`ve never heard it played, so I have no idea how the sound quality is. Still, I`d love to try one sometime. You can see a picture and some info about it on their website, marigaux.com

Sorry, forgot a zero. That would be the 2000 line.

A metal oboe would be a soprano sax, heh heh...
Seriously though, I`ll bet they`d sound quite similar.

Metal oboes do exist, they were made in the late 1800`s and early 1900`s i believe. In an oboe book i have it lists Eugene Thibouville made them. I have seen some on ebay as well.

Metal Oboes?
Consider the wood oboes that are thought to be too bright. How much brighter (excessively high overtones) would metal be?
As for marching oboes, I suspect the person suggesting this are NOT Oboists!

I was browsing the net and came
upon this thread and yes, I have seen a metal oboe, it was in a music store in Oregon City, Oregon. The owner, an oboist, played it for me and we both laughed at how ridiculously bright and out of tune it was.
