Take an empty plastic film vial, add about a half inch of room temp water, and pop your reed in there while assembling your instrument. Don`t leave it in too long though. Oversoaking will make it unresponsive and hard to play. And make sure the water level doesn`t go above the thread because the cork absolutely doesn`t need soaking.
Of course, my favorite reed is now about a year and a half old and I pretty much have to keep it fairly moist (ugh, what a word) all of the time or it collapses on me. But it still sounds great, so I`m loathe to toss it even though I keep buying new ones and working them into circulation.
