Just wondering if anyone believes that certain instruments describe your personality for instance, my orchestra director said "you oboists are very funny, and are great leaders"... im like.. hmmmm i wonder if that actually is true, like can the instrument you play really tell what kind of person you are?..
could people please right some comments about this

I keep changing my instrument theories, but here`s what I`ve noticed so far (at least this applies for high school bands):
Trumpet players are hyper and talkative
Flute players are obsessive and preppy
Drummers are loud and agressive
Saxophones are laid back
Clarinets are somewhere in between
And lastly, oboes are weird.

Here`s my take.
Flute players are reserved and competitive
Drummers are laid back and fun loving
Saxophones are outgoing and aggressive
Clarinets are social and consoling
Oboes are overly self-conscious and territorial

I agree mostly with you guys, im an oboe player, and i think the oboe players are reserved, analitic, they got their own world in its own dimension...far away from the real one... and certainly they are weird.

hey, what about piano players? i play piano and i sorta see myself as smart, shy(but can contribute), i don`t like having a ton of friends, just some close ones i can open up to, my teachers all like me and i am very talkative and(some say) funny around my good friends and family

"my orchestra director said "you oboists are very funny, and are great leaders"... "
our conductor thinks we`re a bunch of neurotics fussing about our finicky, temperamental instruments. So be it. He`s stuck with me on oboe.

Orchestra directors are nearly always overly complementary, so take it with a grain of salt . I believe every comductor has probably told each section they`re the real leaders of the orchestra. I`ve even heard the double basses being called that.
But as for instrument personalities, I`d say:
Flutes: nervous and passive-aggressive.
Oboes: introverted.
Clarinets: reserved.
Bassoons: mellow.
Horns: mellow, though not as much as bassoons.
Trumpets: agressive and vain.
Trombones: Great people! No idea why...
Tuba: dull.
Violins: vain and nervous.
Violas: grumpy.
Cellos: calm.
Basses: who knows... they never talk!

I have known shy and thoughtful, preppy and outgoing,or rude and self-centered flautist so I don`t think a certain instrument should be labeled as a certain personality.
