I`ve heard of them before, but that`s it, unfortunately. I have no idea how good they`re supposed to be, and I`ve never heard one played, so I can`t review it.

Hans Kreul are awsome! I personally am looking at a Hans Kreul Mirafone. I like their tone, and their an all around pretty unique instrument.
Please give me an link to this instrument you may be interested in, I`ll take a look at it for you. And I`ll tell you what I think ^.-.

Hans Kreul have been making oboes in germany since the 1920`s. Tubigen Germany is where their factory is located. Hundreds of these oboes have been in the US but sold as Gordets. There was also another buyer in California who sold them as Mirafones. If you take a Hans Kreul, Gordet, and a Mirafone Oboe, They all look the same Because it is from the same factory, made by the same company, Hans Kreul. To my knowledge these are by far the best oboes around. You will find out that most pro`s know about these oboes, or already have made the switch to playing them. An oboist who understands the difference knows you want that darker tone that the Kreul German make gives. Don`t get me wrong, the French deffinatley make a great Oboe. But you get a true Oboist to try both Oboes and hands down the German make wins every time.
So If you have one that actually says Hans Keul Tubigen. It was probably not sold in the US. Probably purchased in Europe and made it`s way to the US.
By all Means, Don`t sell this one at a yard sell.

Hey!
I am from Germany and I have to say that nearly ALL pros I know (and I know alot) play Marigaux and NOT Hans Kreul. I myself prefer my Buffet because she definitely has a very dark and warm and full sound. As you said Hans Kreul has - and the thing with Marigaux is that it sounds as you want it to sound.Really! I mean two identical Marigaux oboes may sound completely different after having been playd by two different oboists for a while and then being given to someone else.
You know what I mean??

Hmmm.... where to begin... I know of no professional oboist in the US playing a Hans Kreul oboe. Oboe Pro, where is this place where Hans Kreul oboes are so revered? I have nothing against these oboes, I have never tried one, but they are by no means common in the US or sought-after by professional oboists. Maybe Oboe Pro can provide a list of professionals playing these instruments.

RE: wrowand last post
Regaurding Hans Kreul. Not many people know of this Oboe in the US. I was refering Back in Germany. I do appologize i have only been in the US for a few years. Not many Oboist that I have met in America even know of this product that is why i gave a little history lesson a few post ago.
But I do know of one american who plays an Hans Kreul. Arthur Jensen, He Teaches at Salzberg. He picked up a Rosewood Oboe Made by Hans Kreul.
The first Oboist in the Germany Orchestra, The first oboist in Hamberg orchestra, The Munich Opera orchestra has a first oboist who plays a Kreul, The first oboist in the Dortmund Philharmonic and many others. Come to Germany, You will understand what I mean.
I have enjoyed your curiosity, I do understand YOU. Oboist are very narrow minded when it comes to their Oboe of choice. By any means. I am not a sales man trying to market these instruments. I am in need of a knew Kreul. Before moving to America, I lived in Cannada for twenty years. I have been out of touch of my home land.

I can only guess. One of the reason . Kreul never had a big market in Germany . Tendensy to change from german hand-made oboes to french mass producted brands started some 25 years ago.Despite such players like Lothar Koch was using both german and french instruments.Kreul sold pretty good in USA during 1960-70 under name Gordet and Mirafone( name of company that imported Kreul to the states)Last catalog of Kreul oboes I had was dated 1994??? maybe 96.
For years i was looking to get one for myself. This is one of most solid instruments i ever played. However, It has some minuses as well. You can try http://www.oboe.us
I just descoverd this great web site of one of the most interesting oboe collectors i ever me on the net.
Hope you`ll find your dream Kreul

How many oboepros I know?Well as I am studiing oboe you could say that I am surrounded by them...and what just came to my mind: The solooboists in Kassel, Frankfurt, Mannheim ect. all play Marigaux (and not just them..)
But Solooboist of the Berlin Philharmonics (Albrecht Meier) plays Buffet Greenline...I just got my Buffet oboe back today, it had to be repaird in Berlin - and I missed her SO much!Even though I got another instrument for this week.
Hey those guys in Berlin also make oboes (Franck und Mayer) and a friend of mine has one and she is definitely happy!
