If your teacher makes reeds, I reccomend to buy from them. If they don`t, check eBay for HANDMADE reeds and find someone who can "fix" them to make them work the best for you.

Covey Oboes has awesome reeds. I use the ones made by Lynn Davies, the ones with teal thread. They`re expensive, but they`re good.

also be careful. check out your reed before you leave the music store. even the best ones can have cracks in the side. u have to look very carefully. if u don`t, then you could have a reed with an airleak and it won`t play, and that`s $10+ down the drain, unless you`re lucky and the store lets u return it. BE CAREFUL AND CHECK BEFORE U LEAVE THE STORE.

I buy my reeds there over the internet. Handmade & very nice. A bit expensive, but totally worth it.

get a kit and learn to make them. they work the best. I get the best tone and response out of the ones i make. each person is different so it is important for oboe players to make their own reeds to suit their preferences. if your instructor makes them, ask them to give you some reed making lessons.
