why do people always pick on oboe players? My friend plays the oboe and it seems that people always tack the mickey out of her for it. I think all instruments sound good when they are being played correctly.

Heh, don`t worry about it. oboe players are always abused! the first year I played and since then I`ve been called a duck. Since when I first sounded on an oboe, it was a sound of duckish quality. lol. Respect there is, but can`t help the teasing.. my teachers joke to me... how do you get two oboes to play in tune?..............you shoot one of them. heh.

I have been playing the oboe for 2 years, but play at a very high level, having played with college bands, etc. I find the reason noone really plays the oboe is that a) it is not offered as a beginning instrument or b) once you get to the higher levels, it is extremely difficult. Another thing that makes it harder is that it is more difficult to tune then other winds, has a different embouchure, and if you just happen to be a musical idiot and dont know youre part, whether youre in tune, whatever, sometimes there isnt someone else to listen to. Thats what i think.

Only 4 eighth grade oboes in my entire district! We have over 200 of other 8th grade instruments. Two guy oboes (me included) and two girls.
