My oboe squeaks a lot when I play a G/F sharp/A flat. It`s not the reed, I`ve played my oboe with numerous reeds, all still squeaking occasionally on those notes. It`s not my embochure either, I don`t think, because when I try and adjust my embochure during a `squeaky moment`, it doesn`t help. To get those notes to unsqueak, I have to press the sides of my reed and pray it works. I don`t think it`s the oboe, because it`s the best school oboe, and it doesn`t seem to be broken. And I don`t have any time to get it checked by a professional, because we are practicing every day in class (and I have 2 solos!).

Help! What could it be?

Even the "best" of oboes need adjusting every so often, and because you said it was a school instrument thats even more so because people who have used it over the years have probably not taken care of it like they should have...your best bet is to bring it to a woodwind repair person, or even an oboe specialist and have them look at it, in the meantime check around for another oboe you could use in the meantime like other schools in your area/colleges would probably be your best bet, they are usually pretty lenient about letting students use their instruments as long as they know u can be trusted and that the instrument will be returned eventually.
