Here`s a funny story that happened to me Sunday afternoon.

My husband & I are friendly with the band department folks at the local Sam Ash & they know I play oboe. Not long ago, someone brought in an old Cabart oboe (series JJ). The thing looked all banged up & they had a price of $800 for it. They don`t have anyone working there who plays oboe so I told them I`d bring my reed case by and give it a play. So Sunday afternoon, I take my oboe satchel (well, it`s technicaly a laptop satches, but for $20 it`s great considering a $4000 laptop could be in it rather than an oboe). Anyway, anyone who has been into a music shop is probably familar with having to stop with the guy at the door so they can inspect what you bring in so you don`t leave with something you didn`t pay for. Anway. guy is taking down the serial of my oboe and asks "is this a clarinet" - the dude had to be a guitarist to ask that. It just goes to prove that just because you work in a music shop, it doesn`t mean you know the difference between to vaguely similarly shaped instruments. Incidentally, that Cabart wasn`t worth more than $100, keys and springs were sticky left and right, plus there was a nice heavily pinned crack running alongside the second octave key`s rod.
