Hi there. Everyone is right! Get a teacher and read everything you can on the subject. You also need to fill a trashcan with reeds that you have made. When it is filled, you will have an idea.

I have been a professional oboist for the past 15 years and am still learning. You always learn. A good teacher is the first step, and then you have to make lots of reeds.

Good luck

Hey!! well im in the eighth grade, and my school year just ended, so i will be in highschool next year. I have been making reeds for a year now. It`s pretty easy, depending on how you learn. I went to oboes at oxford, last summer, and they taught me. That is probaby the best oboe camp there is, but pretty costly too. I learned to make reeds, and have stuck to it, and made some pretty decent ones. You can go to: oboes.com and buy reed and oboe stuff. Also, you can go to: oboesatoxford.com and check out the camp. Good luck with the reeds, i have found it easy now, since i practice.

In Italy we must learn to make our own reeds in third-fourth year because we must demostrate we can do that at the fifth year examination I am pretty good now but I still can`t do the end of the work (I don`t know what`s the word in english, when you open the top of the cane and work it with knife etc), my teacher do it for me...
