Use more air but don't change the face(or your sound will change).

you need to learn to relax your embouchure a lot more and rely on air. your embouchure automatically tightens when you blow lots of air.

if u are flat, blow more air. it will raise ur pitch. if u are playing loud, don't tighten ur lips as it will make the sound thin and you will go too sharp. practice with a tuner.

do u think the types of reed will also affect the volume? if yes what reed would u all suggest?

do you have a teacher that makes reeds? if so, assuming he knows what hes doing then just rely on him to make the perfect reed for you.

what you want in a reed is not to much resistance but lots of support. you want to be able to blow into the reed without any embouchure and produce a mezzopiano sound.

Although I don't have a teacher to make me reeds, a friend of mine does and her reeds are usually more louder than the store bought ones that I buy. Her reeds are made with more 'reed' than the twine that holds both pieces of wood together, if you know what I mean. Her reeds are also a little bigger than mine.

I hope this information helps you with your oboe playing.

I'm an sophomore in high school who has been playing since 5th grade. I've had the same problem as you until this year, when I tried reeds from MCW. I get the pro handmade reeds on chudnow E staples.

They're expensive, but every one I've gotten has worked beautifully, and I can get a much louder sound out of them; they vibrate better. I've had other people play on these reeds also, and they get the same response.

The only problem with these reeds is that they only have one knot to tie them off, so a few of mine came undone. My teacher just tied some stings around it and coated the knot with clear nailpolish, and they're fine.

Hope this helps. A reed can make or break your playing, as you probably well know.

I hve the sme problem and my teacher sys try 2 breathe deeper, fill ur lungs 2 the bottom. Dont use ur lips to chnge dynamics and use ur diaphram to support the breathing. A harder reed might help.
