I started out with this model. I used it for a whole year and found it very good. It is plastic but is a full conservatory oboe. (with the exception of the split "D" key ring) It for the most part has a good sound and easy response. Yet after I purchased a professional oboe, I realized how much better the new oboe was in response and sound. However, I think that this is a very good model to start on. It has everything a beginner needs. It is affordable and durable. Go for it!

I hope this helps!

I would not recomend the Barrington oboe. I would start on a resonite Fox or even the Fossati Tiery

I would recommend a fox renard line of oboes as a starting oboe. this was my first oboe and has been great for me. of course, i just got a laubin and it blows it away, but for a good priced instrument to start out on, the renard 330 is a great choice.
