I want to buy a Fossati Oboe, Anthony, where did you get the Soliste? How is it in the upper register? how would you rank it out of 10?

Thanks

Hey
I'm looking for a good profesional oboe, and I'm having a little bit of trouble finding one. I find good ones, but non in my price range. The problem is, I can't spend more than 3500 dollars(preferabley less than 3000 though) and I have to find one with a payment plan. I live in the mid-florida area, and I have called all the places near by, and I still can't find one. Could someone point me in the right direction(by right I mean away from Selmer)

Check out this article on how to buy an Oboe:
http://www.public.asu.edu/~schuring/Oboe/instruments.html

In your price range you have the option of these new oboes... to name a few: Rigotaut's RIEC, Patricola's Standard, Fox' 330, Mark Chudnow's MCW Oboe (Finished Bulgheroni), Bulgheroni's Artist, Buffet's 4052, Fossati's Tiery, Howarth's S45, or Yamaha's 441

or used from reputable dealers.

On payment plans, most probably would not go that route except with financing plans like this:
http://www.kesslermusic.com/ge/finance.htm where they just give you a line of credit (credit card) and simply charge the instrument off on it and you pay off the debt on the credit card.

MMimports offers an interesting rental program. http://www.mmimports.com/rent.cfm#rentaloboes

I am currently using Selmer and its not very good. I have to take it in to get fixed very often. Stay away from Selmer!

Looking for new oboe, tried Loree, Patricola, Yamaha, and Fox 800. The Fox outplayed them all. Im waiting to try the Covey . I will report as soon as I test that one.I will post details later..

Well, I tried all the oboes mentioned in my last reply, My teacher and I did the blindfold test on all of them and the Fox 800 was obviosly the most in tune and the most vibrant tone quality of them all, with a pure and sweet tone that was very flexibile and also stable. So guess which one I bought?

Basically, I've only played oboe for about 9months now...mainly because there was one in school that needed to be played, and my teacher was like..."You play all the other woodwinds, so....learn oboe..."

but anyway...

I ended up with a Selmer. I honestly spend more time repairing that oboe then I do playing it. The instrument also sounds...immature. Now, I'm aware some of that is from my playing, but honestly, everyone I've had play it has had basically the same annoying sound. Mainly, that of a broken duck. The keys are easily bent out of shape, and at times the instrument is very awkward. It doesn't even include the low Bb key.

Needless to say, I'm looking into buying a new oboe that's...competent...I was considering the Fox 330, since it's in my price range.
