I can understand that when others call us ducks that we don't find it amusing.

Why do we hate clarinets? Come on, they're a great instrument and on a lot of occasions oboists have worked well alongside them. We shouldn't be hating every other instrument in the orchestra, we should appreciate them and work together. Sure the oboe is great, makes a really nice sound and takes a lot of talent to play. Who says that doesn't apply to every other instrument!? The recorder can be played with as much talent as the oboe.

Oh and who cares if we're called clarinets. Viola's are probably called violins and they don't care.

I agree. Besides you can't make a symphony with just an oboe or clarinet, recorder or whatever. You have to have all the instruments put together.

Well, I think the people who hate every other instrument don't hate them because that person is an oboe-player, but because they just hate other people. lol

For example, I'm an oboist and also a flautist. My two best friends play flute and clarinet. I also have friends who play saxophone, baritone and many instruments (my boyfriend plays tuba primarily and trombone in jazz band, but also knows how to play clarinet, contrabass clarinet, trumpet, French Horn, and baritone.) The only section that I've found that I actually hate are the trumpets...and it's not because they play trumpet. It's because most of them I hate as people because they're stuck-up and all high on themselves. However, I currently have a trumpet/color guard friend, and have had several trumpeter friends in the past.

Oboes have a lovely part in the Entrance of the Queen of SHeba . However violins (YAY) do most of it.

Saxes are oboes with clarinet mouthbiecas made of metal-so how can you hate them? (supposing somone reading this did)

Y are double reeds not known about unless you're obsessed with them? There are as many oboes as there are clarinets and as many bass oons as flutes in the symphony orchestra!

i dont hate any1...

i like everyone...especialy the flute section...they always give me bread during practice LOL~~!! (my school's flutists brings food to practice...all of them.. LOL)

but sometimes i get an earache sitting beside the flutes...

Well if you get an earache put some bread in your ear!! ;-)

I was purchasing dbl reeds b4 I even started playing the oboe...dont ask...lol...And I agree that the trumpets are just stuck up..... (nothing against u trumpets that aren't stuck up) I for one also love just about everyone in my band/exband (except the bassclarinets and these three sisters...a mixture of reasons, but not because of the instrument itself.) so, yeah...

i play the clarinet and its not that hard to get the clarinet and oboe mixed up.

I do not hate any instruments. I think it's a common misconception that oboes naturally hate everyone. We can't help it if we all love each other like family and barely talk to anynoe else. That doesn't mean we HATE anyone.

It's the wierdest thing, I was reading down this page, and the first comment, says something about the person (who plays oboe) hating clarinets!! I find that funny, because in every ensemble I've played in, the oboe section always hates the clarinet section!!!

I play clarinet, bassoon, oboe, sax and cello, but my friends who play oboe, still tease me and clarinets!! It's strange, but I think it's because practically every oboe player has been asked at least once: "Is that a clarinet you're playing?!?!?"

Resentment, is the only word...lol...

i do not hate everyone in the band-except for trumpets since they NEVER practise and are VERY annoying...SORRY NICE GOOD TRUMPET PLAYERS (if there are any!)
