hello everyone, i am a 2 year experience going into my 3rd year oboe player, i need advice making a decision.
i was offered oboe lessons,
i do not plan to be a musician as a career nor do i plan to play the oboe for many many many years. for me it is just a hobby. and i refuse to use my parents money to pay for the lessons because it is going to be wasted if i don;t play the oboe seriously
but i want to improve at the oboe and there are a couple who i want to surpass in skills, please give me advice

yeah why not? if your parents are willing to pay whats the problem. sure you may not play professionaly but why not strive to be the best you can be anyways.

If you are planning on going to college, you can get some really nice scholarships if you are a good oboe player, even if you are not going to be a music major. You can take a band class in addition to the classes needed for your major.

I took lessons last year even though I don't plan on making it my proffesion. It made me a better person overall, and it really helped me during band class. I say go for it.

I would buy some oboe books (standerd of excellence is the best for me) and learn on your own. If you need help look on the internet or join band at your school.
