I'm thinking about starting oboe in my 7th grade band year. I originally play clarinet, and i was wondering if playing the clarinet for 3 years before helps me in starting the oboe?

It really shouldn't help at all... Everything is COMPLETELY different. The fingerings, the size of the instrument etc. It'll be like starting anew. But at least you know how to read sheet music.

It IS completely different, but it is at least more similar than the violin, for example, is to the oboe. At least you have practice playing a wind instrument and blowing to make the sound.
