How many of you tongue with the "back" of the tongue? My teacher told me to touch the tip (on the upper side) of the reed with the "back" of the tongue while imaging saying "ta".... and I play with my tongue curled a bit upward... and saliva gets into the reed very often...

Recently, I notice some of my friends tongue by touching the bottom side of the reed with the tip of the tongue...

How do you tongue? Which is the right way of tonguing???

Jimmy the frustrated oboe newbie...

my teacher tells me to tongue at the very tip of my tongue at the very tip of the reed, where the two blades meet.

tounging with the tip of your tounge is easier than the back of your tounge I think. I started out tounging like you. I also play bassoon.

I prefer tonguing with the tip but I do energy releases and accents with the bottom for some reason...
