my teacher just gave me a new reed and he says that i need to take good care of the base because it is a really good base.
on the base there is a sign "gletin".
that are the different kinds of reed bases and how do they effect the reed?

do u mean the cork part? thats called the staple fyi.

anyways different types can create different sounds. for instance, brass versus silver staples vibrate differently; i think silver staples are a little brighter, or possibly the other way around. Also how thick or thin it is can change the stability and so on.
