The oboe is important for these reasons:

1. We tune the orchestra :P
2. We sound as good as everyone else.
3. We are naturally sophisticated.
4. When we play piano, we can be heard over a MF orchestra.
5. We are natural soloists,
6. We work great within our sections.
7. We are just plain cool.

How's that?

We are the best instrument in the orchestra.

We are the coolest instrument.

We are almost the rarest instrument. Bass clarinet, french horn, tuba ect.

We are natural smart people.

Lol I just realized that could be an insult. I didn't mean it like your guys opinions don't matter, but honestly everyone thinks their instrument is important (I know I do, well not on Tenor Sax but bassoon yah) XD

If you want to know how important the oboe is, listen to any full orchestra classical piece, and count the number of oboe solos there are. When you've run out of fingers and toes, keep tally on a piece of paper.
