the eternal quest to find good reeds

haha my teacher makes handmade ones (which are very very good) but it really ticks me off when they don't respond well. i try to adjust them (with my lack of knowledge of knowing how to adjsut a reed), but usually i just like scrape off the tinyiest (sp?) bit of it cause i'm afraid i'll screw the reed up. haha, pathetic i know. 5 years of playing and i still don't know how to properly adjust a reed. :P

Every oboist complains about reeds. The best solution is to learn how to do reeds. It's cheaper and it's fun. (it can also be vrey frustrating...)
I encourage you to ask your teacher to show you how to make a reed. It is only after you have been scraping dozens of reeds that you will know how to adjust one. And it's the only way to have reeds playing properly.
