I already play the clarinet, and I want to help the band because 6th and 8th have oboe, and 7th doesn't! I think I would alternate instruments every day. 'Cause this could give me a scholorship with the oboe, but I really like the clarinet. What do you think my band teacher will say?

I think it would be kind of hard to alternate instruments every other day, especially if you don't know how to play the oboe. The fingerings an embouchure are way different on the two. Also on the days that you played clarinet, there would be no oboe in the band! You would also have to learn two different parts for each song that you played. If you choose to play the oboe just to get a scholarship, you have to think that you usually have to be pretty advanced to get scholarships, so do you want to put in the time to play oboe AND continue with clarinet? There are also scholarships out there for clarinet. It would probably be easiest to choose one or the other. Hope I could help!

I play both, as well as flute and violin. I practice each every day for a minimum of an hour each, and I play the instrument needed in the band for whatever particular piece we're playing. for instance, I play flute/clarinet for marching band/pep rallies, I play Oboe in the band normally, and I play whichever one is needed for the piece we're playing on a daily basis. The Violin I play every day in Orchestra. I don't think It'd be a good Idea to alternate though because its a pain. Id just play whichever is needed when its needed.

Actually, I planned to keep the clarinet, and keep up with the band. I'm gonna practice waaayyy more.
