Yes, the oboe is a very hard woodwind instrument. The embouchre requires much more strength in the mouth than that of a flute player or clarinet player. So much of the sound depends on the reed of an oboe that you have to take great care of them, and will at one point learn to make reeds if you are a serious player. The fingerings are similar to the flute, but it uses a lot less air than the flute does to produce a sound. However, a certain amount of pressure due to the amount of unused air will build up in your mouth, and you will have to learn how to control that without puffing out your cheeks.
The sound of the oboe is very rewarding though despite all of the practicing involved.
