I played oboe for seven years, up until my last year of high school. I haven't touched it in about a year, as I didn't think I'd have time in college. But I do kind of miss it. Would it be worth it to rent an oboe just to play for leisure? What brand should I get (since I obviously don't need a professional one, no Louree for me!)?

Go for it - you never know what it might lead to! There is a shortage of oboists in most areas.

If you're at a College that has a music program you might be able to borrow an oboe from the school if you agree to play in one of the groups.

I borrowed an English Horn for 5 years from my college as a student.

i think you should! even if you arent playing it seriously, its a very good way to relax from all your work and you can take it further by joining various orchestras from around the world!

A nice intermediate oboe is Schreiber 7060. It gives you much oboe for your money.
