if you want to switch from tenor to oboe go ahead! It`s your choice. The oboe is a really pretty instrument and it has a great sound.

I would recommend you to switch if you really want to. I switched from clarinet less than a year ago and now I play in the wind ensemble. It will take work, but if you are willing to work it is worth a try.

if you are younger and in middle or high school I would totally recommend it I switched from the clarinet. I switched becuase there isn`t alot of people playing the oboe, and now I am the best one in the school I would suggest a teacher though. I don`t think I would be as good as I am now if it wasn`t for my private teacher.

I also switched from clarinet during my freshman year of high school. I am the only oboist at the high school. I have joined the community band and found a wonderful teacher in that organization. I have been playing oboe for a year and have been selected for the windensemble or a.k.a. symphonic band and play second oboe and alternate first oboe in the community band and I also have occasional solos in the community band, usually two per concert. I would recommend it, but you need to find a teacher. Without a teacher you can and will form bad habbits that take weeks, months, and even years to fix. I know I had some, but after proper instruction I can make my reeds and play moderatly intence repitiors. You wouln`t become good overnight but with practice it may not be out of reach.
