yea 10 dollars an hour is pretty good but it doesnt matter how much it costs my parents say cuz the better education is better. My lessons are 52 dollars an hour and i have 2 hr lessons every week but my teacher rules.
And as for oboes causing blindness... i dont think anyone should worry

Just because something cost`s more doesn`t always mean it`s better. You`re probably saying all that $ jumbo to elevate yourself.

I wish my parents would let me take lessons there way to cheep for that, but my band director called me "creamy" and thats really good for an oboe
Iv never herd that oboes cause anything other than the slight pain of a firm abbersure (or how erver you spell it)

It`s true that money doesn`t always dictate the quality of a private lesson, but in many cases, expensive lessons ARE better lessons. The more experienced and widely versed the teacher, and the fewer students that teacher is willing to take, the more likely that their lessons are worth a higher tuition rate. A professional oboist will often charge more than say, a local college oboist.
That said, the single most important qualification for a teacher is that you, as the student, are able to understand your teacher`s style. If your teacher is able to communicate to you very difficult, nebulous musical concepts through words and example, that`s the teacher for you. If you feel like you`re just frustrated by what your teacher is making you do, or you feel like you just "go through the paces" with them without being able to articulate what you`re working on, you need to find a new teacher.
As for cheap lessons--you`d be surprised what your parents would be willing to do. Half an hour a week can make all the difference in your playing and practicing.
Talk to your band director and ask them to send a letter home explaining the importance of private lessons...something to the effect of, "This is a financial burden worth accepting because your child shows talent. Your investment in this instrument will be much more likely to pay off in the long run if you find private instruction."
And, as others have said, there ARE cheap, quality teachers out there. There`s places like teachlist.com on the internet to find them, band directors can often recommend them, and many local high school students even would be glad to sit down with you for an hour or so a week for just $10-$15. ANYTHING, even a twice-a-month arrangement, is better than nothing.
You might even consider offering to DO something in exchange for your oboe lesson price; an extra chore, like washing cars or mowing the lawn or what have you. There are ways to get the lessons, if you just try.

I get half an hour lessons on both oboe, clarinet and song for 40Ł every half year. The more children you are the cheaper, my brother plays for only 20.
I don`t think oboe can cause blindness.

Well, it is better to be blind than deph. But I think there isn`t much change of getting blind because of the oboe. Its like being afraid of terrorist attack because you live in New York lol :D

I get oboe lessons every saturday for one hour. And can you guess how
much it costs me for the lessons?
It`s free! My oboe teachers is the best oboist
and I get lessons from him for free.
When my band director asked me
to call him for lessons, my parents thought it
would be 30 dollars or more for just one hour.
Well, I consider myself pretty lucky!

Started when I was 13. We`re pretty well developed by then. Blindness - not likely. If you rupture a blood vessel in your eye, they always heal and do not impair sight. Aneurism in the brain - a rare possibility only if you`re pre-disposed, and you`re probably not. Any symptoms? See your doctor, not music teacher. the only people that I think would be at risk would be people that are diabetic, because their retinas deteriorate. Also, people who had a stroke may be at risk, because the blood vessels in your brain are already weakened.
However, I will not put too much worry in this, it is extremely rare, but it you are worried, please see your doctor.

U have to be lying. I dont believe oboe can cause blindess. I think people go blind while playing the oboe but not because of it. Michelle..would you be from any of the southern states by any chance?
