I am in a band that marches sometimes but I have a problem. I haven`t found an oboe lyre. Do anyone here know where I can buy oboe lyre?

I use of course a plastic oboe wich I borrow from the school when I march and it doesn`t bothers me much if it rains (just as much as the clarinets). I made one reed that is good to march with. It bothers me the most to use the bended flute lyre (the flute lyre type that is sticked to the flute itself, not the arm of the player) that I use now.

I`ve heard that some people march oboes..that`s pretty cool. Is it easy to march and not have to worry about killing yourself with your own reed? Where does the lyre stick out of? I haven`t gotten to march yet, but I`m a sophomore. I just do concert band. Anyways, good luck!

Hmm you have just to have a steady hand so the tone wont get awry.
Sorry, but I`m not that good in english so I can`t descripe how it is sticked to the oboe and were but it is not a clarinet lyre. They don`t work

why wouldn`t a clarinet lyre work?
well, i doubt you can find a lyre specifically for oboe b/c oboes don`t usually march. but, here are some sights i found with lyres that you can look at.

i guess if you haven`t you could just borrow a lyre from each instrument and see which one works best and then just get one of it.

the thing that holds down the G# button when you hold down the F# button avoids the opportunity of using clarinet lyre,

I use bended champ on flute lyre that I stick to the place between the second ottava hole and the reed. Unfortunatly that lyre gives the oboe much unbalance and it holds down the 8wa hole.

Oboe lyres are available from John Myatt Woodwind and Brass in Hitchin, Hertfordshire. You can order online at www.myatt.co.uk. The only ones they sell are Buffet Lyres at Ł27.00 each.

Oboes are not ideal marching instruments, particularly if you bought it yourself!! They should not be taken out in damp conditions and only use old or cheap reeds as they can be easily damaged. The instruments are easily ruined in damp weather and can crack. A plastic oboe is one option, but they sound dire. Otherwise, learn another instrument for marching and keep the oboe for indoors! After all, if you can play the oboe, you can play anything!!

NEVER MARCH WITH AN OBOE......even if you do have a "good reed." The oboe is an orchestral instrument and it is supposed to sound beautiful. And never heard of an oboe Lyre. NOT the loud ugliness of marching band.......I would have to kill myself if I ever saw an oboe march....actually first I would kill the oboist then kill myself

oboes can march, but always march with a plastic one. You may also use a fibrecane oboe reed though it`s tone is not too good. However, you don`t need to soak it before playing and that is most suitable for outdoor use.
I`ve seen oboes amongst marching bands on TV.
