hi. i have been playing oboe for about 3 months and i like to think ive progressed quite quickly due to my prior musical experience. However, i want to get better as quickly as possible. is there any advice you can give me about how to practice, or technique hints etc. please, if you have any advice, no matter how small, please let me know. Many thanks,

People say this on this message board like a broken record, but get a private teacher. Ideally, get a private teacher that can work with you at least an hour a week. It`s the best thing you can do for you playing on any instrument--and don`t be shy about asking your teacher about how they practice, what works and what doesn`t work, etc. etc. That`s what you pay them for. Even if all you can get is a local high school or college student, just being able to interact with another oboist and hear their tone quality is worth it.

i do have a teacher, but he doesnt actually play the oboe! he is my guitar, theory, and composition teacher and is a great musician and teacher. he knows how to teach instruments, and uses a self-teaching book to teach me. i have 2 hours a week with him, but only about half hour is on oboe, as i am doing a level music and need to concentrate mainly on my guitar. any particular hints about how YOU practice?

Get a teacher and start studying out of the BARRETT METHOD BOOK by: Boosey and Hawkes.......will teach all technical stuff and tone will come over-time.
