Does anybody have any comments on the Yamaha 411P Oboe? It has a plastic upper joint, and wooden lower joints. Does anybody have one, or know if they play well? Thanks.

i heard good things about it. so i decided to try it when i went to buy a new oboe. it sucked. it was the worst out of all 5 i tried, but i think it was a lemon b/c a lot of people like the instrument... i would recoment that you go to a music store and try it

I bought a used yamaha yob-411 (which is wood) from a music store in No. Calif., where I knew the owner. 1st purchase of an intermediate oboe for 8th grader. Brought it back to Wash, DC in winter. In March the top joint cracked. Replaced the top joint with a Yamaha plastic top joint and it worked fine with the wooden body of the oboe.
Yamaha has a rep for cracks in its wood, especially in areas where there is more seasonal temp. change than in Calif. Perhaps the 411P is Yamaha`s attempt to customize their oboe for this kind of climate.
By the way, my child has moved on to an f.Loree with AK bore and is auditioning for college.
Am selling our modified Yamaha YOB-411. Contact me if interested. (jlaffertypbes@yahoo.com)
