Okay,
I would just like to know

-who all has had a bad experience with a selmer oboe, and what was the problem, what was the level(student, intermediate, etc.), oh, and how long did you play it, how long had you been playing already, and whatever else you think is needed.

-who has played a selmer oboe and not had any experiences worth saying that a Selmer sucks or is a must not, if something was wrong what, what level (student...), how long did you play it, how long had you been playing already, and whatever else you think is needed.

~ it will help if you`ve actually played a selmer

-and while y`all are at it, if you wish, you can put in the other oboes you`ve used and stuff like that.

Okay,

I play on a plastic Selmer beginner`s model oboe, serial # B 43742. I`ve played it 4 years, but I do hope to upgrade (don`t know what to) sometime soon as I am nearing my junior year of high school and my 5th year as an oboist. I`ve never had any real problems with the exception of a time when the C-key (RH pinky) would stick and mess up the notes until i lifted the RH middle finger off its key. Other than that, it has a beautiful tone and it`s helped me start and get through 4 wonderful years of playing the oboe.

I currently play a student Selmer, plastic. I`ve played on it for five years, and I can`t wait to upgrade. It is the perfect oboe for a student for the first couple years, but one can`t achieve a very good quality sound and must have incredible intonation...
I have not heard anything about intermediate Selmers, but I refuse to even think of going on playing any kind of Selmer...

sorry, continued:

problems/bad experiences: recently I have been having a lot of trouble with it, random springs breaking, etc. and a couple months ago I needed some major overhaul work done...
worst experience, though, was at my lesson, two hours before i leave for jr districts... i could only play three notes! that`s all that would come out (my teacher tried it too)
so THAT was fun...

I played on a plastic student selmer for 6 years. It worked for awhile, but as I improved, I found the instrument to be somewhat crippling. soon found I couldn`t even play my music anymore because I didn`t have enough keys! I think selmers are good learning oboes but as a performance or advanced oboe, I think they can be pretty bad. I upgraded to a wood F. Loree this year, and feel so much more satisfied with my overall performance.
