Are you the only oboe player in your band? Your teacher must think you can handle it if he chose you for it, think of it as an honor and forget the haters. Maybe you could get some help from an older oboe player in your area, who knows, maybe you are near someone from here and they could give you a few pointers after school or something.
Good luck!

I have been in the same position. Just keep trying the best you can to hang with the others even if they are haters.

when you play just forget that they are there and play like your practicing at home. if you play with full air support and calm fingers, then you shouldnt need to worry. your band director knowws you are good enough to play with the 8th graders so if you play like you always do then you shouldnt have a problem.

Well, the only thing I can really suggest is work hard. Hahaha! haters clarinets and flutes.....they aren`t exactly haters. Flute can be your best friend in orchestra. I suggest just getting a really good teacher and ALWAYS strive to get better!

Aww. Poor little buddy. I was he same way when I first started. Ignore the flutes and clarinets and who ever buggs you. They are all just cray posers who wish they knew how to play the oboe like us talented people! You just need to consebtrate on playing and PRACTICE!! That is the number one thing. You will just do good. I know you will because you are smar enough to pick to play the oboe! Good luck and happy playings!

I play flute clarinet and oboe among many, and im in the same prediciment as you. Whenever i play oboe in my schools Wind Symph. the other flutes next to me look at me funnily...damn them!!! We should all be living in a all loving, caring woodwind family...
