HAHA i find it funny how the flutes and clarinets are `haters`. Although they do overpopulate the band, its kinda like a war between the brass(including saxes) and flutes and clarinets. Talk about competition.
For those of you soloing it out amongst the band, its just that you may think you arent good enough. if you are good and alot of people know it, then what do those haters have to poke fun at? you can just relax... and when you have you performance, relax, its just like a full band rehearsal.
I have been playing the alto sax for 7 years(im a senior in high school) and i am the best of two towns. I actually just started playing the oboe like 2 weeks ago. Yup, its a duck... but i still love it. IM GONNA BE THE BEST! But get this, a clarinet is going to join me so i won`t be alone... (and she is better but not by much) but its just going to be very competitive. Not that im worried, but it will be fun. Now as much as we tease each other section, we all still get along, its band love. Really all my friends are there, if you like it stick with it... it will be the best time of you life.

Just try to have fun, if you are teased, it just means that whoever teased you is just plain jealous. I am one of two Oboe players in my whole school. I am the only one in my grade, i get teased, people call me the elbow player.

do your best. the flutes and clarinets are probably just annoyed that they cant play your solos anymore. take deep breaths, practice all the time, use lots of air, and have fun. make friends with the people around you and enjoy the music. if anything, practice your butt off so you can show off how good you are!

YUP! I totally agree! They r just jelouse! Because oboes r the best and r the most tallented lol. But keep it up and u will go far! And dont evr listen to those stupid flutes because they dont now NE THING! THEIR heads r prety much filled with nothing lol! Well GOOD LUCK U GUYS

I am Principal Oboe of my high school band, I am a freshman, and I blow away all the other instruments, excluding one saxophone, he pwns all, lol. Nobody hates me, they actually depend on me to hold up the melody, especially the flutes, which I can play, and I a male.

wow my post has been float`in round for a while i`m in 8th grade now and i have been the best oboe and barri sax player in my whole reigon (which is about 20 middle schools or so)for two years in a row! but to all the people out there that posted thanks for the support and as for the haters they are all in highschool and now they are little fishy freshman and they get told they suck everyday. one word K-A-R-M-A

first off...i'm the only guy in my front row and second off, i switched just for that band to oboe and i'm the ohly one. so it sux but who cares? you get the best solo's and ur vibrato really sticks out. have fun with it instead of thinking about being a lonely oboe.
