I have to start playing the oboe, so i hired on for this month, but I can`t get the silly reed in properly. Has anyone got any adive on how to put it in, and up to where the cork must be inside the oboe? I really need to start learning this thing urgently.
Thanks

Um...push the reed all the way in then tune and pull it out to make adjustments.

NO, never ever pull the reed out, tuning adjustments need to come in the reed-making and embouchure, try using a bit more pressure if you`re flat (don`t bite) and loosen up a little if you`re sharp, or, since oboe reeds get sharp as they age, get a new one.

I agree with Justin. If you want to put the reed in properly look at the overlap of the 2 pieces of cane and put the reed in with correspondence to that overlap. Usually a reed will play in tune if it was made correctly and if not in tune you could either adjust your embouchure to make it in tune (which works but if too uncomfortable adjust the reed with a knife) or adjust by scraping/clipping. Hope this helps!
