hi i love oboes ever since i played my first note F it was love at first note but anyway my oboe has name obee and i started playing in 2003 i saw it in a book in 5th when i wasnt listening to my music teacher telling use how to read music oooops anway i was going to play clarinet or percusion then i said wanted to play oboe but i dont see the mouthpeice may teacher that came from the junior high told me it was the hardest ww to play but i didnt care then she gave me a demo of it on her oboe she had with her from when i first heard her play snake i was automatically hooked so tell me about how you started and your oboes name or any other interesting storys (sorry it is so long)

My oboe`s name is Bobo! I tought I was the only who names things! Hehe!
`He" is a Bulgheroni and I bought it from my teacher.

I fell in love with oboe since I heard one in my band. I play sax since I was 8 but I study oboe in a Conservatory (third year). I`m a little late (21 years old!) but I`ll try to become a good oboe player anyway!
I started with baroque oboe (just a week, it was a summer course) but I prefer modern oboe.

One day I`ll buy a Marigaux!!!

I have been playing the same oboe for 5 years. I also play 2 other intstruments, but Oboe is my favorite!

I have been playing for 5/6 years just focusing on the oboe and I play on a Loree 2001 model.

Ah.... well, in fifth grade, a small quartet came to our school to teach us music stuff for standardized testing. While THAT part was evil, the awesome part was when I heard the oboe play - I absolutely fell in love with the sound and couldn`t get it out of my head for months. I even wrote an essay about it for testing!

Then, in sixth grade, I joined band and spent a bit of time trying to figure out what to play. I was leaning towards clarinet or percussion, until I found out that the previous year, one girl had played oboe. "OH MY GOSH OBOE!" was my choice, and the director talked with me briefly to ask if I had any previous musical experience. I told him I`d played piano for six and a half years, so I got my oboe!

And even though I couldn`t get a sound out of it for the first month, I`ve since become quite good...... only oboe in my eighth grade band.

Hi, I`ve been playing oboe for about 3 years now and ever since i have had to play on really bad oboes( plastic selmers and Tom sparkes) but now i am finally getting a professional marigaux model 2001. it is really nice, and worth a pretty penny... what should i call the new addition?

i started the oboe with the most stupid reason... because we haf a year 7 program at our school... that lets you learn a instrument for a year... so everyone was choosing instruments and im lyke... i have to choose something everyone else doesnt choose... (for sum reason i love being the odd one out) ... so everyone picked trumpets, clarinets and flutes and stuff... and dere was no one doing the oboe so i was lyke ... okey looks lyke dats the least popular one.. so i chose it, i never really liked it until after around 2 months of playing, i heard my teacher play it for the first time.... i fell in love wit it... i knew i had to keep learning it and now im on grade 4, and its my baby now !!

I only started playing oboe a few weeks ago and have only had one lesson but so far I absolutely love it. I started on flute at school and then after playing it for a year I decided I wanted to play another instrument as well. I loved the sound of the oboe and realy wanted to play it, but it was very expensive so I learned clarinet instead. I hated clarinet and decided I might as well rent an oboe and see if I liked it so I did!

I`ve been playing oboe 5 years now. I`d never heard of it before I started playing it ~ of course I hadn`t really heard of any instruments generally since I was homeschooled from 3-6 grades. But when my mom decided to put me back in school in 7th grade she decided I should be in band and bought me a student model Selmer 1492 oboe. Everyone always seems to think that that`s a crappy oboe for some reason, but mine was just great! Actually, it took quite a while to upgrade (huge family = little money). I didn`t until I got my new Selmer 104 as a surprise present this past December.

I decided I wanted to stick with the oboe the same year I got it, 7th grade, when "The President`s Own" Marine Band came and played at the High School (where I`m a junior now and they are coming again this October!!!!!!!!!!! And I`ll be a senior! lol) and I decided that one of my goals in life would be to play oboe for The President`s Own. So yeah .. ever since I was 11 or 12 I`ve been wanting to do that .. nothing`s gonna stop me! lol

So I`m gonna go to college and major (and eventually master) in Music Performance: Oboe. I`m so close to getting into college .. just over a year away!!!

Yes, oboes are awesome! I have a Signet 120 oboe, I named it Bob. I love that name, lol . Anyway, I play Clarinet, Alto/Tenor Sax, Flute, Piano, Bassoon, and now oboe. I just got mine yesterday, and got a reed today, hurray! I have been playing ever since I got home, for me, oboe is an easy instrument after playing bassoon. I started in 3rd grade with one (1) instrument, and now, 3 yrs. later, I have 8 , All of my teachers want me to play in their concerts! Gotta get back to practicing, lol!

I just started lovin` the oboe! I was and am a clarinet player for 3 years and I loved it so I wanted to double, I loved the sound the oboe made so I signed up for a free thing where they`d rent me one and give me lessons for the summer. I didn`t even have a lesson yet but I studied it online and can make most of the notes, I think I`m okay for a beginner who never had a lesson. I want to rent or buy one but they are SO expensive! I don`t know what I`ll do when I have to give little oboe back. Speaking of the oboe...I`m gonna go play it now!

I`ve only been playing for about 8 weeks and I really like it. I have been playing the descant/treble/bass recorder for 4years and I thought it was getting dull so I started a new instrument. Mum said I should get a rare instrument so I can get in Orchestras and stuff. I am quite pleased with myself-

I got a (decent) note out of it on my first lesson and now I know about 18 notes!!! I think its a bit weird I also do Vibrato already but oh well. Does anyone have a clue why recorder playing has helped cause I am confused!

My oboe`s name is Igor. He is a Yamaha 411. When i first started the oboe it was pretty rocky and i don`t mean rocky like normal rocky but rocky like out of the four oboe players in my sixth grade class i was dead last and completely clueless. Slowly i started to get better. Now i am a senior in high school and first chair in our top band. All it takes is determination. All the oboes that were once ahead of me have since switched instruments, quit, or just play but don`t really care and i am working on putting togther my college auditions. Oboe has taken me a long way and i want to play forever.
