1.)somehwhat. some similar fingerings but that`s about it
2.)yes, much harder than the clarinet
3.) Making your own reeds takes time and experience actually playing the oboe...my suggestion is find a profession online or locally who can make reeds for you until you`re advanced enough to start learning how to make your own.
4.) a few years...oboe takes more muscle than sax or clarinet

The embouchure is totally different for Clarinet to Oboe but somewhat close fingerings. Definately more harder than the Clarinet, I think the oboe is the hardest instrument in the orchestra besides the French Horn. Buy reeds first and then start to make them- find a professional in town. Good tone will take awhile to learn but I suggest listening to many recordings of famous oboists. Don`t work on vibrato till you get your fingering and embouchure correct. The air for both clarinet and oboe I am assuming is the same play from the "Diaphram." Good luck!

P.S. I would watch the embouchures for both Clarinet and Oboe....the Clarinet could screw your embouchure up for the Oboe

something that i noticed when i switched from the clarinet to the oboe was that i really couldnt switch back. i didnt take lessons on the oboe (i still dont) and i had to really work hard to keep from squeeking when i went to play my clarinet (or for that case, my tenor sax, wictch i was playing more often 6 months ago {marching season}). btw, i only started to play a few months ago, and the first piece that my band director handed my was the proffessional score for "Raphsody in Blue". go fig. i woulnd up practicing every day with m brother, who was playing the clarinet solo parts, and i still took me 2 months of playing to get it. we played it 3 months after i picked up the oboe.
