I`m a beginner, getting ready to transition from a rental, plastic, student oboe to my own intermediate or professional level oboe.

When I played clarinet I read about the myth of clarinet blow-out. There was no conclusive evidence that clarinet`s blow-out. However, is this the case with oboes? I read, on the following web site, that blow-out is a "fact".

http://www.oboes.com/selecting.html

"Wood peaks at about 3-6 years of age and can & will become “blown-out” after that." "Wooden oboes become "blown out" with use and age; this means that the bore dimensions change slightly and the wood becomes fatigued."

There are a lot of old wood oboes for sale, and they get purchased, so I wonder about blow-out. Also, with the high cost of a new professionl wood oboe, replacement every 3 to 5 years is discouraging.

My question is, have you or anyone you know ever experienced oboe blow-out, and had to replace your oboe for this reason?
