I played clarinet for three years and then switched to oboe, and I`m doing fine with it. Sure the fingering are a little different (some of them are the same), but I learned them quickly.

I find that switching instruments really isn`t that difficult...it just takes an intense amount of practice. I started out on oboe, and then learned to play the saxophone. Fingerings are similar there, with the exception of the C and F#, then Upper octaves. Embouchure was fun to learn - "Put your teeth on the mouthpiece? NEVER!"

Keeping up with those two instruments, I then learned the flute, which is darn-near the oboe, a few fingerings here and there, totally different embouchure - that was fun to learn.

Clarinet was really difficult for me, mostly because I can`t remember that the lower octave fingerings aren`t the same as the upper octaves..the embouchure was easy due to the fact that I had already learned sax.

Brass? Don`t go there - I don`t want to TRY to learn brass. Can`t do it. =D
