What are good make and model English horns for the beginning/intermediate player? &/or what are good NEW horn choices, under $4,500? &/or what`s the best NEW horn (excluding Loree) for the "buck", for the non-professional player?

I exclude Loree, because I know they are highly regarded horns, but are also at the high price end, and I may never appreciate one`s value as an amatuer player.

Well, personally I play on a Bulgheroni which can be purchased from Woodwind and Brasswind. (http://www.wwbw.com/Bulgheroni-English-Horn-i73132.music) It`s a great horn. Also, i recomend a fossati (tiery or pro) english horn. (http://www.mmimports.com/enghorn.cfm)

hi,
the horn came w/ 2 bocals, neither of which were great...i ended up buying a Fox bocal...not sure what type or size at the moment. if you really wanted to know, i could go check for you. just let me know. it was a great investment and makes a world of difference on the horn!

Yes, Erin, I`d like to know which Fox bocal you have.

I was reading about them last evening. Seems like they have 2 models, one with a warm even tone and the other with an open brilliant tone.

Thanks,

Erin,

The XP is described as more open and free-blowing, with a brilliant tone-quality.

Number choices are 1, 2, & 3, but no description.

Did you try different makes and models before buying?
