For the longest time I`ve wanted to be able to play the snake charmer on my oboe. I roughly figured out some passages.... but nothing sounds to great. I`m a highschool student and I have to do an intrument demo for elementry school students. I am looking for a catchy song to play. If anyone has the music to the snake charmer or even the not sequences, I would love help. Email me or post back! thank you

I didn`t know there was such a song, however the actual instrument used in snake charming is actually the shawm, basically the father of the oboe, just for information sake.

Well, i am a middle school student, and the thing that makes every1 turn and stare is when i play a version of what they know as snake charmer. i play it " D E F E D D E F A E F D" that is the best help i can give. Any minor scales also sound cool on oboe. i play them for my little brother and his friends and they are in Awe.

HI there, about that snake charmer thing, i searched a lot to know what scale to play to have that sonority and found out that it was the hungarian minor. Some say you can also play a harmonic minor too and the interval between the sixth and the seventh is what gives you that snake charmer kind of sound...
Here is the hungarian in A : A B C D# E F G# A
Here is the harmonic minor in A : A B C D E F G# A notice the 1 1/2 step between the sixth and the seventh...
hope it will help...
ciao...

If I know what you are talking about then the way I play it is
C D Eb D C C D Eb F D Eb C.... but its just a basic one. After that it sounds cool if you go straight into the same kind of thing starting at a F.... F G Ab G F F G Ab Bb G Ab F.... I hope that`s the one you meant.

If you buy accent on achievement book 1 it is in there. Also, typing in snake charmer on ask jeeves, washingtonpost, yahoo, refdesk, and google helps.

I`ve found 2 version of the snake charmer that i like, one goes C D Eb D C C D Eb G D Eb C, it sounds cool when it`s played in the lower octave, the other version is F G Ab G F F G Ab Bb G Ab F, then of course you repeat and repeat and repeat...

You know those books they give to for starting out as beginners? I had one of those for oboe and I think it had Snake Charmer in there. I regret that I forgot to take it home and now I can borrow one from the beginners. I`ll try to remember to get back on this.
