When I play the oboe, my teeth will bite my lips and that is very painful. So could anyone tell me how to prevent my teeth from biting my lips.

Hmmm...It could be you`re curling back your lisp too much, try making sure a little of the fleshy part of your lip is showing when you play. That way, your lips are pushed out a bit, bot curled under where the big bad teeth can get them. Also, drop your jaw! This can improve your intonation and tone. Hope this helps.

If you have pain in your lips from your teeth, then your embouchure is entirely wrong or your trying to play too much. You must remember that you are using muscles that have never been used this way before. I use what I call a two-finger embouchure. Your teeth should be far enough apart that you could fit two fingers in between them. While this is a bit of an exageration it gets the idea across. Whenever you feel yourself starting to bite you need to quit and take a break. It`s just like lifting weights-your muscles will experience fatigue and you just have to gradually build them up.

When I started playing the oboe a few months ago, I was really digging into my upper lip. I e-mailed one university professor for advice. He was kind enough to send me this reply:
"Form the embouchure by placing the reed tip about midway down the red part of the lower lip. Then, gently use the reed to "push" the lip into the mouth and over the teeth (the idea of pushing with the reed is just an image to promote relaxation - the lip will have the help somewhat). Close the upper lip over the reed, pucker up a bit, and you`re in business. The lips should not be out in front of the teeth. For me, the line dividing the red part of the lip from the regular skin almost lines up with the lower teeth."
This, along with dropping my jaw a bit, works for me. I hope find this helpful.

In my case, when I can relax my thorax, tension would build up within and my lips tighten... The more tension, the more tigtened my lips are and they will lose control eventually.
