Nope, its supposed to stay there. Some reeds just have wire. I`m sure it does something good. Personally, whenever I suspect one of my reeds needs wire, I just break it. But I`m a snob about my reeds, and have to keep up appearances.
Oh, except my English horn reeds. Contrary to popular belief, not ALL english horn reeds need wire, but most do. Oh, and I have coloured wire, so I usually can`t resist using it.
Such a pretty shade of purple...
