dip it in water and leave it wet for five minutes. Don`t let it oversoak or it`ll get too hard.

I thought it plays easier if you soak
then from ten to fifteen minutes! That works better for me!
Maybe I`m wrong...

I have heard different answers from different oboists. Some say a couple minutes in warm water, and others that let their reeds soak for much longer. I guess it depends on the player and their preferences. If I let mine soak for more than a few minutes in warm water, they open up too much for me and I can`t create enough air pressure to make them vibrate. Then again, I am still weak in that department.

yea, i was about to say that... in my band, we just get out our instruments and play...
does it matter if the inside of the double reed is moist before playing? b/c clarinets and saxes can do that, but we can`t... and bassoons sit so far from the faucet...
