How do you go about learning to play the oboe when there are not teachers available? I`ve been looking for and oboe instructor anywhere in North Alabama and haven`t had any luck

It was hard for me too, I was first taught oboe by a flute major with some oboe experience, then I was taught by regular band lessons, which is not good for an oboe player. Finally, 10 years later, I found a oboe major lesson teacher. Now i`m in college getting my lessons because oboe is my major

I played oboe last year, and I had to teach myself for a while until a teacher could be found.

Nena,

What`s your musical and musical instrument background? For example, do you play another instrument or will the oboe be you first instrument? Do you know how to read music?

Bill

I think teach yourself is very difficult, you must have lots of motivation !!!

You want to find a teacher. You really do. Even if you find one a long way away and only go every month or so, just deal with it and do it. You`ll learn too many bad habits if you don`t.

I`ve been playing oboe for four years now and I`m entirely self-taught... although I am looking for a teacher in Ohio. I don`t think it`s really any harder to teah yourself than any other instrument. It just takes longer.

Ask your band director. Call a local College or University with a music department, ask around at church, ask employees at local music stores. There are soo many more, just be bold and ASK!!!
