I`ve been playing the oboe for a year at my school, but not really seriously or anything. I`ve never learned how to tongue or anything. I think I know pretty much what to do, but if someone could explain it (and then double tonguing for later) it would help me a lot. I understand tonguing takes a lot of practice. I`m not expecting to be able to do it instantly. But if I knew how to start I could practice and hopefully get better. Thanks!

Focus on single tonguing first. You must hit the reed on the tip with your tongue. Practice tonguing on the wind which involves blowing and tonguing on the reed without taking a breath within each articulation. Don`t work on double tonguing until you get this down. Now work on it with a metronome probably a some kind of note progression from a quarter note, eigth note, sixteenth note, and then thirty-second note progression would work. Set the metronome low first. It will get better. GOOD LUCK!
