Hello! I`ve been playing the oboe for many years and in various orchestras, but I keep fighting with a problem: When I play a piece that has no longer pause I keep getting too much saliva on my lips and reed, which makes things very slippery. I then can`t open and close my mouth any more without drying the lips first. This is only possible during longer breaks. If I don`t have such a break in the piece I get pretty stressed. No one, neither my teacher, has been able to tell me so far what I might be doing wrong. Has anyone got an idea about what I`m doing wrong and how I could get over this frustrating problem?

Try out different types of reeds, especially stronger ones with enough tension. Looked at from above, the reeds should have a pretty round opening, they shouldn`t be too flat.

I think it isn`t the reed !!
Try to play with and if you can, don`t eat just before playing, or drink a lot.

If U have @ lest one quarter rest, and U aren`t going extremely fast, U can suck up some of the saliva. It sounds disgusting, but it really isn`t, I mean like, the saliva came from Ur mouth in the 1st place
