Hello I`m 14 and I`m in 9th grade. I used to play piano for 3 years when i was about in 3rd-5th grade. I`ve never played any instruments other than piano but i really want to start, and i want to play the oboe. Do you think it would be okay if I started? Or would it be too difficult...

I say go for it! Your success has nothing to do with your age and everything to do with your dedication & determination! Find a good teacher and a decent instrument and have fun!

I was in the same situation but somehow I was able to semi-succeed. I would get a teacher and work (listen to a ton of recordings).

I think that you should play. Just watch out for the really high and low notes. Be very patient. As the proverb goes "Patience in a moment`s anger will save you 1000 days of sorrow."

awww thanks guys! yeah , i`ve been listening to classical music for awhile and i can pick out the oboe in some songs. i think i might get another oboe CD out from the library and then start playing . again THANKS!

Please, I beg you... GO FOR IT!!! I live in Macau and it was impossible for me to get an instructor. Finally, after 5 years of search, I found one and I`ve started 2 months ago... but I`m already 30... 8.(

Go for it, young man!!! I`ll have lots of fun and you`ll not regret it!

hey! I started playing the oboe when i was 8! Don`t worry! I had a little talent in piano when I was young and then i picked up oboe at 8. I started playing from then and now i`m 17! and i`m still playing! I love oboe, it`s sooo beautiful. If you want tutoring from me, please go here for more info!

Of course you should play Oboe. If everyone played Oboe, you guessed it ... the World would be a better place. People wouldn`t fight over which instrument to play or which Country to destroy. And think of all the jobs that would be created at Oboe reed factories. P.S. I do not work in a reed factory. I`ve played Oboe since age 13, then guitar at 15, a genre in which their is unfortunately too much guitar bashing. All the best. Strat man Dwight

Hi, im 14 ( ive got a week until i`m 15), and i advise you to play. I started in 5th grade, and everyone told me i should quit, except for my parents. I listened to them, and now i`ve won several solo-ensemble 1st medals, and im very happy. If I can do it, so can you! Good Luck, keep playing piano.
