I currrently have a Noblet oboe, but i should have my Fox oboe by next week when I go home for the Thanksgiving holday. I currently attend Indiana University of Pennsylvania for Music Education of the Oboe, so I have a great professor. I`ve been playing oboe for close to 11 years.

I live in UK, btw!!

I hire an oboe from the County Music Service - it`s the basic student Buffet, but i`m getting my own soon - a Howarth S20..pretty groovy.

My oboe teacher is amazing - he was taught at Cambridge University, and is just incredible.

I`m doing my grade 5 (ABRSM) next week!!

I have a pretty good instrument, but it`s a little old! It`s a Bulgheroni and I bought it from my teacher 4 years ago when I started playing oboe (I always played sax, in the wind orchestra of my town). He used it for concerts so it`s good but I paid it only 2,000,000 lire (about 1000 euro).

In my consevatory oboe students are about 14 people from 10 to 21 (me!) divided in 2 classes. I asked to be put in my class when I started because my teacher is very very good.

I play about 2-3 hours a day. I know it`s not much but I also study at the university!

I play the violin (and am taking lessons) but my 12 year old daughter has played the oboe for 3 years, takes lessons from the principle oboist in our symphony orchestra...she`s the only oboe player in her school band program (Grades 6-12)...

...she plays the cheapest Selmer student oboe there is, but as luck would have it, it`s fine...and when her instructor plays it sounds just fine - a little thin compared to a `good` oboe...and certainly not what a pro would want, but more than enough for now! We`re thinking of a Greenline though for later if she sticks with it...her piano teacher also plays oboe and has one...it sounds wonderful...and no cracking to worry about...

What we have found though, is that the reeds make the biggest difference to overall sound quality...she`s now playing on reeds made by her teacher, whose then able to touch them up in between lessons...that`s helped the most...

I am playing a 2001 Model Regular Bore Loree Oboe (OM66) and my teacher is great and is one of the best orchestra`s in the U.S. as of right now. There are a lot of people in my area who play the Oboe. The Youth Orchestra is great too.
